The Center for Religion & Psychotherapy of Chicago

The Center for Religion and Psychotherapy is a not-for-profit organization offering psychotherapy and pastoral counseling for adults and adolescents, individuals and couples, since 1965. Fully accredited as a clinical and educational site by the American Association of Pastoral Counselors, the Center also offers education and consultation services. Clinical staff members are licensed by the state of Illinois, and have been trained both in psychodynamic psychotherapy and in the engagement of the spiritual and religious dynamics of human experience.

What We Offer

Psychotherapy and Counseling

Clinical staff at the Center offer a range of clinical services for individuals and couples, ranging from short-term, problem-focused counseling to long-term, in-depth psychotherapy. People come to the Center from throughout the Chicago area from a variety of social, economic, ethnic, racial, and religious backgrounds. Education

The Center offers an advanced certificate program in self-psychology and religion for clinicians. This two-year, part-time program is designed for professionals who work in clinical and pastoral care settings, and who wish to develop a solid foundation in psychoanalytic self psychology and/or who are seeking to depend their work with the religious and spiritual dimensions of the therapeutic process. Case Conference

The Center holds a monthly case conference open to all interested clinicians. The case conference is held on the third Wednesday of each month, from 10:00 – 11:30 a.m., at 30 N. Michigan Avenue, Suite 1015, Chicago Illinois 60602. Each month a staff member presents a case, and all attendees are invited to join in the discussion that follows. CEUs are available. Consultation and Supervision

The Center offers consultative services to individuals and groups, including churches, synagogues, and other organizations. Staff members present workshops, retreats, lectures, or presentations on a variety of topics related to the spiritual and psychological dimensions of many life issues. Supporting Congregations

The Center for Religion and Psychotherapy is launching a Supporting Congregations Program to make professional pastoral counseling services available to congregation members and to the larger community. The Center would extend the outreach of participating congregations, provide a monthly clergy case conference, be available for consultation on a variety of topics; and give priority to services for congregation members. Participating congregations would promote the Center’s professional and educational services, support the work of the Center with an annual financial commitment, and participate in the direction of the Center’s work through membership on our Board of Directors.
