Education Program
Curriculum
The two-year curriculum is structured around three interrelated components:
Clinical Theory and Case Studies
Year I focuses on the field of clinical psychoanalysis from Freud through object relations theory.
Year II explores the field of clinical Self Psychology focusing primarily on the work of Heinz Kohut, but also covering the major theoretical developments since Kohut, including relational, inter-subjective and social-constructivist perspectives.
Psychoanalysis and Religion Series
Year I focuses on the integration of Self Psychology in three areas of primary concern to professional practitioners: Clinical Practice, Personal/Professional Integration, and Research Applications.
Year II concentrates on the contributions of Self Psychology and later developments to a psychoanalytic psychology of religion.
Integrative Case Conference
Through presentation of participants’ case materials, the case conference provides a forum, over the course of both years, for the ongoing integration of clinical theory and therapeutic practice. Transference/countertransference dynamics and the utilization of self-as-instrument in the clinical setting will receive primary attention. Clinical consultation will be available in each year by separate arrangement with the members of the faculty and clinical staff.
